“I try to offer aesthetic thoughts. The fact that even some of the works are occasionally provoking is probably unavoidable and this is used by me over and over to address the viewer directly. I’m always happy when in this way I can develop conversations with my viewers, for example, at openings.”
The works trigger spontaneous emotions in the viewer, ranging from funny to humorous, from satirical to serious and sad. No feeling seems to be unknown to the artist, and therefore each work challenges the viewer to be individually recorded, understood and appreciated in the consequences arising from this. Considering these works, one could arguably say: “Art must touch”!
It is the artist Helga Kreuzritter who creates art from within herself. The name ‘Kreuzritter’ is not any fashionable pseudonym, but was genealogically maintained by ancestors who were probably actually drawn within the Christian Crusades. Although she is inspired by nature or human behaviour, her own vision continues to prevail. Based on her mood, she creates on canvas, wood, aluminium and other appropriate materials. Despite the multi-dimensionality which is often encountered in her works, many works also represent the artist’s elaborations on two-dimensionality, starting with drawings and watercolours to gouaches and aluminium paintings. Her material images, for example, also commute between two- and three-dimensionality, and this fascination is also transferred quickly to the viewer. These works involve the creation, transience, the time as such or even mythologies of the aborigines, as well as modern fairy tale. Thus, the bandwidth of this artistic creation is not by far exhausted. The artist also works with sculptures that come in wood, metal or stone, rarely from a single material. In short, the artist uses everything which fits together in very specific artistic themes: materials and objects which are artistically worked up according to their own intention. Art is autonomous with her and goes on its own way. The artist conceives works completely away from long standing traditions. Even the qualified basis which she puts to the study of sculptures enables her to evaluate, classify and, if necessary, to overcome seemingly fixed artistic principles in any form. Her diverse works often provoke deliberately.
